NCCI released a new report which attempts to determine “baseline” time to treatment before and after the major aspects of the Affordable Care Act took effect in 2014. According to NCCI, the purpose of the analysis was to help policymakers better understand how changes in the healthcare system impact workers’ comp claimants’ access to care. Overall, the study indicates that the healthcare system currently has sufficient capacity reserve so that provider availability plays a secondary role to claimant behavior in driving the time to treatment. Age, gender and the nature of the injury significantly affected wait times as well.
