The Workers’ Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) released its annual CompScope™ Medical Benchmarks, 17th Edition, which examines trends in payments, prices, and utilization of medical care for injured workers. Louisiana, one of the organization’s 18 study states, saw 6 percent growth in medical payments per claim in this edition, which WCRI notes had stagnated for the last two years of study. Other major findings:
- Outpatient hospital payments constituted a significant portion of the increase in medical payments per claim and are likely due to the “90 percent of billed charges” rule
- Fewer visits per claim for hospital and non-hospital care may be related to the Medical Treatment Guidelines effective 2011
The organization used data through 2014 to perform its analysis.
