WCRI held a free webinar yesterday afternoon about its new opioid studies – Louisiana, New York and Pennsylvania were the three states with the worst statistics. Presenters Dr. Vennela Thumula and economist Dongchun Wang also revealed that Louisiana workers topped the list of study states in terms of long-term opioid prescriptions. One in six injured workers here receive long term opioids, well above Pennsylvania, the next closest state in that category. Louisiana, New York and Pennsylvania also had “unusually high” amounts of opioids per claim. Data in the studies ranged through mid-year 2014.
