EHS Today published a piece on hearing loss limits, which according to OSHA, are violated in more workplaces than most people think. OSHA says at least 22 million workers are exposed to potentially damaging noise at work each year. In 2017, employers were required to pay $1.5 million in penalties for not protecting workers from noise. OSHA also estimates that approximately $242 million is spent on workers’ compensation claims for hearing loss. A bill that was considered but ultimately tabled in the 2018 Louisiana Regular Session (HB790) would have made changes to how cumulative hearing loss is addressed locally.
