Liberty Mutual Research Institute has released its Workplace Safety Index, which reveals that the five leading causes of workplace injuries accounted for about 65% of workers compensation costs in 2012. In order of cost, the five top injuries are: overexertion, falls on same level, struck by object, falls to lower level, and other exertions or bodily reactions. The report is based on Liberty Mutual’s workers’ comp claims plus data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Academy of Social Insurance.
