A recent poll conducted by the Pew Research Center on how Americans view their government found that more than 75 percent of the public believes that the federal government is doing a good job of setting fair and safe workplace standards. In contrast, the poll also found that overall trust in the government and political leaders are near historic lows. “Setting safe standards for workplaces” was the second-highest rated area in which respondents said that government performance was “very good” or “somewhat good.” The support was bipartisan, with 77 percent of self-described Republicans approving of current job safety efforts and 79 percent of self-described Democrats reporting the same. The No. 1 area that Americans named as very good/somewhat good was “responding to natural disasters.”
