OSHA.net, a risk management news site from OSHA Pros LLC, compiled OSHA’s weekly fatality and catastrophic injury reports from 2009-2014 to create a list of the country’s most dangerous places to work. Houston was the most dangerous city to work according to the data set’s raw numbers (not per capita), with 82 fatalities. By comparison, New York, by far America’s largest city, was ranked seventh most dangerous, with 28 fatalities, despite having four times the population of Houston. New Orleans had 19 cases in that time, plus several more if the entire metropolitan area is taken into account. OSHA.net also generated a “heat map” for fatal and catastrophic incidents and a map showing the results of the full data pull, including cities and towns with only one fatality in the entire five year reporting period.
